Russell Jeter

In 2018, I received a Ph.D. in Mathematics with a concentration in Bioinformatics from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia under the direction of Igor Belykh. My research primarily focused on stochastically switching dynamical systems and culminated in my dissertation: “The Stability and Control of Stochastically Switching Dynamical Systems.“
After graduating, I was a NIH funded postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Biomedical Informatics in the Emory University School of Medicine. My research there focused on using machine learning to address various problems in critical care medicine. My primary project utilized reinforcement learning to provide recommendations for clinicians treating patients with septic shock in the ICU.
In 2019, after completing my postdoctoral fellowship, I began as Director of Analytics and Software Engineering for Motus Nova, an Atlanta-based medical device startup. There I helped design and develop the software and firmware for in-home stroke rehabilitation robotics as well as the data collection/processing/analytics pipeline from device to servers.
In 2024, I joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia State University as Assistant Professor of Mathematical and Statistical Foundations of Big Data.
My lab’s research focuses on designing advanced machine learning models and methods to solve complex healthcare problems and build large scale learning tools.
